Walking by the Penfield Presbyterian Church at 1881 Jackson Road in Penfield, you may notice a little red dog house sitting outside. But you won’t find a dog in there. Instead, this dog house serves as a Little Free Pet Pantry. Lollypop Farm recently installed the Little Free Pet Pantry to serve as a space where community members can find pet resources like food, collars, toys, and more. If you’ve ever seen Little Free Libraries, the Pet Pantry will work similarly; people take or leave items as they can to help spread kindness throughout the community.
The Lollypop Farm Little Free Pet Pantry was created with support from the Rieth family through the Jessica Reith Fund. Jessica was a dedicated Lollypop Farm employee and volunteer, and after her passing in 2011, the Rieths created the fund in her memory. Her family began to fund education programs and scholarships, with Jessica’s friends and family members donating each year in her memory.
John Reith built two Little Free Pet Pantry dog houses, the second of which will be installed later this year. The Lollypop Farm Humane Education department and John Reith are also working to create kits so more Little Free Pet Pantries can be built and installed in community spaces by Scouts through Lollypop Farm Scout Workshops.
If you would like to donate, you can leave items at the Little Free Pet Pantry or visit our Ways to Give page.
Thank you to the Rieth family for their dedication and support of Lollypop Farm.
