As one of the few facilities in western New York that helps house and rehome farm animals, Lollypop Farm takes pride in the farm yard. We are happy to welcome a new Farm Manager to the farm team here at Lollypop Farm, Mary Miller! Mary has a degree in Animal Science from Murray State University and has worked for the last eight years as a zoo keeper. She also has a background as a wildlife rehabilitator and veterinary assistant. Mary has already made a big impact on the farm friends here, including an enrichment calendar for farm staff to follow each day that will help keep the farm animals healthy and happy. To get to know her a little bit better, we did a quick Q&A session.
How did you get involved in working with farm animals?
“Growing up my grandfather had cattle and my family had horses. In college, I also studied animal science which included hands-on experience with farm animals like pigs, cattle, sheep, and horses.”
What animals do you currently have at your home?
“I have a zoo at my home! I have cattle, 5 hens, 1 rooster, 3 cats, 3 snakes, and 1 dog named Sampson, who is my best friend.”
What excites you about working at Lollypop Farm?
“It’s so much fun working with the animals, including enrichment. What excites me most, however, is working with the farm staff. We have a great group of people here who are so passionate about the farm animals and love to learn. It’s been great getting to know them and cheer them on!”
What is something you are passionate about?
“I am an animal lover through and through. I am so passionate about making sure the animals are well cared for. Seeing them adopted into loving homes is also so rewarding.”
Are there any animals at Lollypop Farm that you are already loving?
“I love Patches, the Appaloosa horse. She is an 18-year-old mare who is blind. She is such a sweetheart. I also really like Dorothy, the female goat. She’s a sweet old girl who loves scratches between her horns. Annie, the Duroc pig, is also a sweetheart. She’s so pretty with her red hair!”
