Lollypop Farm Humane Law Enforcement Brings 9 Additional Charges of Animal Cruelty Against Local Animal Exhibitor

Fairport, N.Y. (May 18, 2022) – On May 18th, 2022 Lollypop Farm Humane Law Enforcement investigators charged Sally Reaves with an additional 9 counts of animal cruelty in connection with the neglect of hundreds of animals at her facility, World of Wildlife Educational Encounters, located in Marion, N.Y.

Reaves was originally charged with failure to provide proper food and drink under Section 356 after nearly 800 animals including rats, mice, guinea pigs, degus, ferrets, and rabbits were seized from the facility on Monday, March 14th. This law protects animals impounded or confined and requires that they be provided good and wholesome air, food, shelter, and water.

Lollypop Farm Humane Law Enforcement Investigators returned to the facility with a search warrant on March 29th. It was then that they discovered an additional 96 mice, 11 rats, 16 birds, 10 cats, 8 potbellied pigs, 8 dogs, 2 emus, and 1 Monitor lizard living in unsanitary and inhumane conditions.

“This kind of neglect and mistreatment of animals cannot be tolerated in our community,” says Vice-President for Humane Law Enforcement Reno Di Domenico. “One of the potbellied pigs we brought back to Lollypop Farm was pregnant and so severely malnourished veterinarians rated her with a body score of 1 out of 5. Others were discovered sick, encrusted with fecal matter, and severely lacking in the most basic of needs like shelter, nutrition, and water.”
Reaves is now charged with an additional 9 counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals under New York Code Agriculture & Markets Section 353. Reaves could now face a $1,000 fine and/or up to a year in prison for each of the 10 misdemeanor offenses involved in this investigation.

Lollypop Farm maintains an SPCA designation and its Humane Law Enforcement Department is charged with investigating and enforcing the animal cruelty laws of New York State. Serving Monroe, Orleans, Livingston, and Genesee counties, Lollypop Farm plays a critical role in addressing animal cruelty in the community. These humane law enforcement officers are certified state peace officers with the authority to make arrests and seize animals being abused or neglected. Lollypop Farm and its Humane Law Enforcement Department receive no tax dollars or government funding to provide this community service.
