Sophie, a 2-year-old Shih Tzu mix, was brought to Lollypop Farm in desperate need of help. She was dirty, covered in matts, and had given birth to two tiny puppies just hours before. Realizing that they no longer wanted Sophie or her new puppies, her previous owners surrendered her to the shelter mid-labor.
Still in distress, the Lollypop Farm veterinary team raced to help Sophie, and she gave birth to a third puppy here at the shelter. All three immediately began receiving care from our team in the clinic.
Every year, thousands of homeless and abused pets like Sophie and her puppies are brought to Lollypop Farm, often in need of lifesaving care. We need you to help give them hope.
Tune in to the Tails of Hope Telethon on Saturday, March 7th, between 3:00 and 9:00 p.m., to see how you can make a difference in the lives of pets like Sophie and her puppies. Watch as we broadcast live from Eastview Mall on 13 WHAM ABC, CW Rochester, and 13wham.com, to help raise funds for Rochester’s pets in need.
Too young for adoption, her newborn puppies Olivia, Lilly, and Charlie required time with their mother and round-the-clock care with one of Lollypop Farm’s dedicated foster care volunteers and staff members, Sue D.
In their foster home, Sophie was able to nurse her puppies and Sue provided supplemental bottle feeding to ensure that they were healthy and steadily gaining weight.
Sophie and her puppies frequently came back to the shelter for veterinary care, vaccinations, and visits with the staff. As you can imagine, this little family was quite popular around the shelter!
By the time Sophie was ready to start her new life, she had been groomed and lovingly cared for, and looked like an entirely different dog! In January, Sophie and all three of her babies found happy homes in the Rochester area. Her puppies had grown into healthy balls of fluff, and each of them left the shelter with bright futures ahead.
Thanks to our generous supporters, Sophie and her puppies were saved just when they needed it most. But, you don’t have to wait to make a difference for pets in need like Sophie and the pups. Give today.
