9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Farrier Demonstration

Learn new techniques to maintain healthy hoof care through proper shoeing, trimming and cleaning. Speaker: Josh Berman studied horseshoeing through the Cornell University Farrier Program. As the owner of Lake Effect Farm & Forge, Berman services equine across the Greater Rochester Region.

Evaluating Horses

Lollypop Farm receives horses from a variety of circumstances. Learn how Equine Manager Steven Stevens evaluates rescue horses and develops programs for rehabilitation. Speaker: Lollypop Farm Equine Manager Steven Stevens recently moved to New York where he and his wife owned Stevens Natural Horsemanship. Steven has trained over a thousand horses and taught over a hundred horsemanship clinics ranging from connection work, trail riding, obstacles, and colt starting.

Humane Law Enforcement

Lollypop Farm maintains an SPCA designation and is charged with investigating and enforcing the animal cruelty laws of New York State. Learn how Lollypop Farm humane law enforcement investigates cruelty and rescue horses from cruelty and neglect. Speaker: Prior to her career as a Humane Law Enforcement Investigator, Laura Thompson worked with horses at a boarding/lessons facility and other animals as part of the Lollypop Farm farmyard staff. Since joining the Humane Law Enforcement Department she has been involved in hundreds of investigations of cruelty to animals and neglect.

Saddle Fitting

Get valuable tips and tricks to help you find the saddle that’s the perfect fit for you and your horse. You’ll learn more about balancing comfort, fit, and cost, in the pursuit of equestrian success. Speaker: Heidi Lemki, of Patchwork Saddlery trained in the fitting of English saddles by The Society of Master Saddlers. She not only has a keen eye for what constitutes proper fit, she has experience in a wide variety disciplines and equestrian activities.

Monroe County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol was started in 1938. Learn how the unit serves the community participating in community events and providing special attention to high crime areas. Speaker: In addition to being on the Monroe County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol, David Friedlander serves on the Lollypop Farm Board of Directors. Through his service to both organizations he has shown his dedication to keeping our community safe for people and pets a like.

AcupUNCTURE

Learn how acupuncture can help alleviate pain and other symptoms due to ailments common to horses and other equine. Speaker: Dr. Christine Garvey, DVM received her education from Cornell University. She has extensive experience working with large and small animals in general practice and a shelter setting. In 2017, she became a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.

Meet Horses for Adoption

A wide variety of horses are brought to Lollypop Farm every year. Meet horses for adoption and learn more about work being done to train, rehabilitate, and rehome homeless horses in our community. Speakers: Stable Manager Lauren Guererra has been riding since she was 8-years-old. Lauren received her Associates Degree in Applied Science in Equine Science & Management from SUNY Morrisville in 2004 and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Profession Studies in Management, specializing in Equine Business Management from Cazenovia College in 2006. Equine Attendant, Claudia Walsh, was introduced to the great world of horses by her grandfather. At age 8 she began taking riding lessons. Claudia continued taking riding lessons for the next 10 years in both English and Western disciplines. She has owned her horse Hudson for 12 years. Claudia has been employed at Lollypop Farm for almost 2 years and thoroughly enjoys caring for the horses and being part of the Equine Department.

Horse Massage

Learn the benefits of horse massage to help your horse to relieve tightness and pain. Learn how this safe and simple technique can help increase range of motion and provide a better riding experience for both you and your horse. Speaker: Kristy Taccone graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Equine Science and Management from Delaware Valley University in 2011. She received her NYS license as a veterinary technician in 2014 and acquired experience in equine physical therapy through Thera-Vet Acres. It was there she obtained her certification in Equine Sports Massage Therapy through Equissage in 2015.
