When Bendy was brought to Lollypop Farm in a shoebox, his chances for survival seemed slim.
A concerned community member had found him on the side of the road, completely limp, and rushed him to the shelter thinking that they would likely have to end his suffering. Luckily for Bendy, staff in the Lollypop Farm veterinary clinic were ready to provide the lifesaving care he needed. This tiny kitten had pneumonia, was emaciated and lethargic, and was going to get a second chance.
Veterinary Technician Kris Repich said, “I peeled the crust off his eyes and told him, “not today.”
Clinic staff set up an IV for little Bendy and started administering medication. A stuffed lion watched over the procedure. At the end of the day, Kris took Bendy home with her to continue his care, and hoped for the best.
Kris was thrilled to find that the very next morning, Bendy was up and moving around! He was even eating! This was a great sign for Bendy. On his second day back at the shelter, Bendy was less lethargic, eating more, and even exploring a little.
As his healing process continued, Bendy even made a few furry friends! In the evenings, he cuddles with Kris’s dog Clara, who is very patient and gentle with him.
And during the day, Bendy gets love and attention from Walter, a cat with special needs who lives in the clinic here at Lollypop Farm. Walter often sleeps on “the beach” in the clinic – a heated portion of the floor where pets wake up comfortably from anesthesia. When Walter met Bendy, he must have sensed that the little kitten needed some love, so he promptly cleaned and cuddled him.
Bendy still has a long way to go before he is completely out of the woods. But thanks to community members who keep an eye out for pets in need, and donors who help us provide lifesaving care to pets at the shelter, Bendy’s outlook is bright.
