About the Walk:

Now in its 11th year, Lollypop Farm’s Barktober Fest is a fun yet important opportunity to help the animals in our community. Your support is crucial for providing animals like Gimli with a second chance at life.

event - Barktober Fest 2008 - Gimli beforeGimli, a 4-year-old white poodle, was surrendered to our Cruelty Investigations Department. Our investigators were never able to find out what caused Gimli’s injuries or how long he was in this condition, but he was paralyzed in both rear legs and unable to urinate on his own. Despite his severe spinal cord injury and abusive past, Lollypop Farm’s veterinarians knew this high-spirited little guy had a chance at recovery and ultimately adoption.
Gimli was sent to the Animal Rehabilitation Center of Rochester to begin his arduous and lengthy treatment plan. His therapy included walking and swimming in a hydrotherapy tank three to four times daily, and he was motivated to do his best. Gimli was placed in a foster home during his event - Barktober Fest 2008 - Gimli afterrehabilitation period, where he was able to heal in a loving environment. Foster care also provided him the necessary re-socialization to ensure that he would be ready for a new home.
After five months and a lot of hard work, Gimli had a drastically different life. He was able to walk and go to the bathroom on his own, use the stairs, and even swim! Most importantly, Gimli can now chase a tennis ball in the back yard with his new loving family!

Lollypop Farm is funded almost entirely by private donations and support goes directly towards helping the animals in the Rochester community. Only with your help can we save many more animals like Gimli. Walk, run, or sponsor a participant--every gift makes a big impact! Don’t miss the race for the animals on September 27th!
